Adventure Tourism – The New Buzzword in Tourism

Adventure travel has been defined as any tourist activity that involves two of the following three components: a physical activity, a cultural exchange and engagement with nature. Adventure tourism however is not the new concept but it has gained significance now due to growing awareness, availability of facilities and desire to explore new things. It includes activities like mountaineering, trekking, mountain biking, white water rafting, camel safari, wildlife safari, rock climbing, bungee jumping, scuba diving, paragliding et al. The list of activities in this form of tourism is vast. The important fact is that these activities were previously thought to be the prerogative of elite classes but now these activities are catching the attention of general public. This is why great stress is now laid on adventure tourism facilities. A lover of adventure can enjoy the activities discussed below.
Trekking is one such adventure activity that is immensely useful for both body as well as mind. It is a kind of spiritual experience rejuvenating the mind and prepares the trekker for the routines of life back home. The Indian Himalayas for example are an ultimate destination for adventure lovers and has attracted Trekkers and lovers of nature. The Himalayan mountain ranges of India offer breathtaking, highly challenging trekking routes.
Another option is Mountaineering. It is an exciting experience to an adventure sports lover. The Himalayas in India for instance stretching from north-west to far north-east India offers a number of high rise peaks that are considered ideal for mountaineering. This activity has attracted the attention of countless people and brings one very close to nature and makes him understand the power of nature.
Angling & Fishing are two remarkable adventure activities among the many others that are the part of adventure tourism. These activities make the person to learn the virtue of patience and make the person more calm and meditative. One can have more insight into one’s self while sitting idly waiting for fish near a swiftly flowing stream situated in beautiful settings.
Visiting wildlife sanctuaries and national parks is another adventure activity that is popular amongst the people as the wild creatures always caught the fancy of people because of our wild connections. White-water rafting is a high-altitude, high adrenaline water adventure that has few other adventure sports matching its unique excitement and thrill. This sport is now very popular amidst people. Paragliding and parasailing are two such activities that fulfill the craving of humans to fly like birds and immensely popular. Scuba diving is another option in which a person goes in deep water in sea and witnesses the raw beauty inhabiting underwater. Skiing is one more option that is very adventurous and makes one’s adrenaline rushing. Then there are other options like camel safari, rock climbing, ice skating.
The immense opportunities in adventure tourism are the reason that Adventure Tourism is now is a very popular part of tourism and it can be said that it is the new buzzword in tourism industry.
